North Carolina Courage Ring of Honor Illustrated Jackets

Illustration, Handlettering, Hand Painting

I was invited by the National Women's Soccer League team NC Courage to illustrate original wearable design pieces for some of their most remarkable players. Jessica McDonald and Sam Mewis, who are 2X NWSL winners and World Cup champions, were gifted the pieces during their Ring of Honor Ceremony at the start of the 2025 season.

The pieces were conceptualized by me, working from reference images of the players in action. Later, I digitally sketched the compositions and hand-painted them on one-of-a-kind denim jackets to honor the players’ time with NC Courare and all their amazing career achievements. I also developed original hand lettering to showcase their names, referencing soccer jerseys. Lastly, I worked with the team's brand colors to create two exclusive pieces that are distinct from each other but still converse visually in a coherent and modern way.

Rough sketches presenting the basic idea were applied to images of the jackets to give clients a better idea of the expected result.

Drawing on the back of the jackets, after applying two coats of fabric paint and waiting for each layer to dry.

Each element was outlined with Posca pens to facilitate painting. Each jacket used at least two layers of each color, with detailed areas requiring extra coats.

Thanks to NC Courage for the honor of illustrating visuals for two inspiring female athletes during International Women's Month.
